What an exciting month!! Summer is so busy! I hope you are enjoying the sun, the rain, family, friends and some great gardening! It is so fun to watch things grow!
I have seen our communities grow this month. Watching lives change through the generosity of others is an amazing thing. I have seen our communities at work and unless you are smack dab in the middle of the action it is hard to understand what the difference a few caring people and community organizations can make! I want you to truly understand what giving a few hours of time, talents and money can make to your fellow neighbors.
It all starts with a phone call. I received a call this month from a person who said, “I am in the nursing home and I can’t go home because I can’t get up the stairs to get into my house. Can you help me?” My response was “YES WE CAN”. The amazing volunteers of Faith in Action put their faith to work and built a ramp so this gentleman could come home. He is home, he is independent and he is safe and happy. His insurance paid for the materials for this ramp. In most cases ramps can and will be paid for by various insurance sources.
About two weeks later I got another phone call from a couple that needed a ramp to get in and out of their home after a recent medical event changed both of their lives forever. Living on a fixed income and not having insurance that would cover the materials for a ramp, paying for the materials was something that would cause significant hardship. It just so happened that I had just spoken at Our Lady of Lords mass and discovered that Oasis Share a Meal had a little bit of money reserved for ramps and home modifications but did not have the volunteers to build them. Divine intervention….I know so….. Two weeks later the ramp was built by the Faith in Action volunteers and Oasis Share a Meal donated $800.00 for the materials. I was blessed with delivering the news to the family that the ramp was paid for. Words cannot express the range of emotions that news brought and how that ramp had given them back the independence they had lost. Amazing…..
About four months ago I received a call from someone that wanted to donate an electric scooter. Her husband had passed away and she did not need it anymore. She wanted to know if I had someone who could use it. I said absolutely! Although I did not know at the time who would need it, I did know that eventually I would come across the person who would need it. Well I found that person this month. It just so happens that this person works at EEI in Little Falls and will use the scooter at work. The cool part of this is that the scooter will remain at EEI for all to use! Amazing…...
So the moral of the story is… the time you give, the talents you give, the money you give, the equipment you give, it all adds up and makes an amazing difference.
If you have it.. give it… if you need… it seek it.
